Chronic Diseases – Significance of Homoeopathy
The World Health Organization stated that 3,50,00,000 people died from chronic diseases
in 2005 and 60% of all deaths are due to chronic diseases. The projected main causes
of deaths in 2005 in all age groups worldwide are Cardiovascular diseases 30%, Cancer
13%,Chronic Respiratory diseases 7%, Communicable diseases, maternal and perinatal
conditions, and nutritional deficiencies 30 %,Injuries 9%, Diabetes 2% and other
chronic diseases 9%. Leading killers are Heart Diseases, Stroke, Diabetes,
Cancer and Chronic respiratory diseases. The estimated loss due to these
chronic diseases from 2005-1015 will be around 250 billion dollars in India.
The WHO warns that the cost of inaction is clear and unacceptable. A 2%
annual reduction in chronic disease death rates worldwide, per year,
over the next 10 years has to be achieved and it says that the scientific
knowledge to achieve this goal already exists. To achieve the targets it
requires comprehensive and integrated action.
In September, 2011, the UN will hold its first High level Meeting of the General Assembly on Chronic, non- Communicable diseases in New York. Billed as once in a generation opportunity to put chronic diseases onglobal and national agenda, the UN meeting could achieve what his year’s Millennium Development Goal (MDG) Summit achieved-the launch of coherent strategies for action, securing broad political commitment, winning pledges of financing, and providing a stage for powerful international advocacy. The death and disability has to be curtailed by all means.
In the light of the emerging new acute and epidemic diseases and increase of chronic diseases it is prudent to look at the spectrum of diseases, their causes and effects and find viable solutions for mitigating the suffering of the humankind. Homoeopathy is affordable, reliable and cost effective in addressing the burden of global chronic diseases. The need of the hour is to study the concepts of Hahnemann much more deeply and put the principles into practice. The magnum opus on Chronic Diseases written by Hahnemann has to be studied diligently and applied in the clinical practice for exemplary results. The principles laid in the Organon of Medicine have to be applied in our day to practice without any bias, for better results.
I appeal to the United Nations and the World Health Organization to take the expertise and wisdom acquired by homoeopaths in the prevention and treatment Chronic Diseases for the cause of mankind. The causes are known. The way forward is clear. It is your turn to take action. May homoeopathy flourish in the new millennium.
